New Year's Day 2012 - a Blip Between December 31 and January 2nd.

Ordinarily, New Year's Day is a tribute to New Years, complete with college Bowl games, party food, and get-togethers with family and friends. Sunday, January 1, 2012 held none of that at our home. It was a Sunday like any other and I'm no college football fan, but I missed the bowl games that play on January 1st.

Today, on January 2, we had company over we and watched one of the best bowl games ever: a game between the University of Oregon and Wisconsin. The Ducks v.s. the Badgers - back and forth, matching touchdown for touchdown, field goal to field goal. It was a nail-biter right down to the last second when Wisconsin spiked the ball to stop the clock. But time ran out for them and for the first time since 1917, and several trips to Pasadena, the Oregon Ducks won the Rose Bowl. The score was record setting - 45 to 38.

The holidays are officially over now and we'll get back to our routine. And even though I graduated from a different Oregon college, I rooted for the Ducks. Ducks - a funny mascot for a football team, but fitting for Eugene, Oregon. It rains enough in Eugene to float a flock of them.
